Fix ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT and SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR in Chrome and Edge – Step-by-Step Guide

If Chrome or Edge stops working while AVG Secure Browser works, and you’re getting SSL errors, follow this guide to fix it.

Step 1: Restart Your Computer and Router

• Restart PC and router to flush network settings.

Step 2: Disable Hardware Acceleration

1. Open Chrome/Edge → Settings → System
2. Disable “Use hardware acceleration when available”
3. Restart the browser

Step 3: Disable Antivirus Temporarily

• Turn off third-party antivirus software (like AVG/Norton)
• If the browser works, add it as an exception

Step 4: Update Network Drivers

1. Open Device Manager → Network Adapters
2. Update your network driver

Step 5: Reset Network Settings
